Friday March 5, 2010

Dear Parents,
Our school year is moving along quickly and we are now two thirds of the way through our school year and at the end of Term 2.

The ministry of PCA continues to be very evident in the lives of our students as they continue to blossom and grow in the Lord. Our God is gracious and gives us so much to be thankful for. Spiritual victories are being won every day and boys and girls are coming to know the Lord and grow deeper in their Christian faith. Praise the Lord.

The distribution of the Term 2 Progress Report marks a time of reflection on what each student has done this past term. It is also a time to set strategies for finishing the year strongly. Let us all encourage our students to continue what they do well and work on the things that need improvement. Our students at PCA have been gifted with lots of talents and abilities. It is such a joy to work together with all of our students and parents to develop those talents and abilities to their fullest.

Please make sure that a signed copy of the Progress Report is returned to your child’s teacher on Monday March 22nd.

Parent/Teacher Interviews by appointment only will be held during the afternoon of Friday, March 26. These interviews are scheduled only in cases where there are academic or behavioural concerns. Please mark your calendar that school is dismissed on Friday, March 26 at 12:00 noon and there is no afterschool Child Care that day.

Our Chapels have continued to be a powerful source of praise and worship, teaching and missions outreach opportunities. We are very proud of the way that our Elementary families have responded so generously to the special needs of people around the world. For example in one offering we raised over $600 for Bibles for Russian students and in another offering we raised over $800 for our High School Missions Trip to Senegal. Then there was the overwhelming response to Haiti’s crisis and the generous donations of over $4500. Thank you to everyone who was willing to help others and for assisting us in teaching our boys and girls about the vital importance of supporting others in their time of need.

There are many other accomplishments that we can also be proud of here at PCA. In sports our boys and girls did well at their recent ACSI Basketball Tournaments. The boys and girls competed hard and played with honour and Christian sportsmanship. Thank you to all team members and coaches – Mr. Thabet for the boys, and Mr. Constable for the girls, for all your time and hard work.

Also a thank you goes out to Mrs. Buhlman and all the students who represented us at the ACSI Speech Meet. Even though we did not have any placings in the top three this year the children represented PCA well and each one of them did their very best in using the gift that God has given them.

The skating and skiing programs were amazing again this year and we plan to offer both programs again next year.

In February we shared in an incredible time surrounding the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. The connection for our students actually started back at the very exciting Olympic Torch Event in Markham before Christmas.

There was such an opportunity, through closely following the Olympics, for our students to become fully engaged and to develop a strong sense of national pride and what it means to be a Canadian.

We were able to also have our own PCA Olympic Spirit Week headed up by Mrs. Aspinall. There was tons of excitement all week leading up to the final Friday where students were engaged in our own competitions, complete with Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Our festivities concluded with our own PCA medal ceremony in which the top three teams of students representing three different countries were awarded their Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

Thank you to Mrs. Aspinall and her team for planning such a wonderful series of events and creating such fantastic memories for all of us.

In conclusion, I want to wish everyone a very safe and happy holiday. May it be a restful and worthwhile change of pace for each family. I look forward to seeing our whole PCA family together again on March 22nd.

Sincerely,
Mr. Trent Mansell,
Principal, Elementary Division.
