Nov 2011 Report Card Letter - HS

David Broomer | 2011-11-18
November 18, 2011

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

We serve an awesome God! To reflect back on where we have come from since our opening day is nothing short of astounding. I commend the students and staff for their adjustment to our new facilities, especially realizing that not everything was in place on that first day. They have gone about their work and responsibilities so that once more I can boast about the wonderful students we have at PCA. Please continue to pray as there is much work yet to be done, but with the Lord’s help all things are possible.

Reports Cards
Please find enclosed your child’s report card for Term 1/Semester 1 mid-term. This report reflects the work accomplished from September 12 – November 11. The mark is indicative of how the students are doing and the necessary adjustments, if needed, should be made in order to find greater success in their studies. The semester courses will quickly come to an end in January as exams are required in the various courses. Non-semester courses do not require a mid-year exam and therefore students in Grades 9-12 will only need to concentrate on their semester course exams in January. This is a change from previous years, so time will be better utilized for learning purposes. Assessment and evaluation is ongoing in each course, with 70% of the final grade devoted to course work through the duration of a course.

Parent-Teacher Interviews
We encourage all parents/guardians to attend. The interviews will be held on Thursday, November 24 (4:10 – 6:00 pm) and Friday, November 25 (8:00 am – 2:00 pm). Note: no school on Friday. An appointment is required, please:
  1. phone the office at 416-733-2010 (ext. 304) or
  2. e-mail to sbroomer@pca.ca, you will need to include:
  • the course code
  • teacher’s name(s)
  • preferred date and time (interviews are every 10 minutes)
  • interview confirmation will be e-mailed back to you, keeping in mind the time may not exactly match your request, as this will be done on a first-come, first-served basis

Since the time is very limited per interview (10 minutes) it is imperative that you are on time, so as to not miss the interview.

Open House

There will be an Open House on Thursday, December 1 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. Though the evening is an opportunity for you to visit the school, we would like you to take this opportunity to invite others whom you know might be interested in PCA. Advertising is taking place to promote this evening to the wider community, but word of mouth still ranks as the number one promotional tool. Thank you for your help in this regard.

Christmas Program
Please set aside Tuesday, December 15 in order to attend PCA’s Christmas program. It will be a combined concert with the elementary school. The concert will begin at 6:30 pm at the school. We look forward to a great evening with all our families as we come together to celebrate God’s grace to the world in Jesus Christ. Please invite friends out, as well as those who might be interested in enrolling their children at PCA.

Immunization Forms
The enclosed immunization forms must be completed and sent back to the school office. Please note that every student must have this completed as we are now within the York Region and the health unit here requires them. Forms need to be returned no later than Wednesday, November 23. Thank you.

General Information
  • Lates
    • Getting better!
    • A warning bell rings at 8:20 am at which time students need to make their way to the first period class.
    • The bell at 8:25 am signals that O Canada is about to be played at which time students are considered late and require a late slip.
    • Students who are consistently late are now being given a Late Notice form, which is a written communication to the family regarding the matter of lateness.

  • Attendance/Absences
    • Please notify the office, either by phone or e-mail, if your child is going to be absent from school. If this is done, it saves the office a great deal of time by not having to make phone calls to try and “track” down students who are missing. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
    • Parents/guardians need to ensure that students are in attendance on a regular basis – if students miss 15 classes, they are in danger of losing that credit, as per Ministry of Ed. requirements.
Dates to Remember
  • November 24/25 – Parent/Teacher Interviews (no school on the Friday)
  • December 1 – Open House
  • December 15 – Christmas program
  • January 24 – beginning of exams (Grade 7/8; Grade 9-12 semester courses)
I look forward to seeing you at the various events that are just around the corner.
Blessings.
