2010 Issue #5
Dear parents,
The past couple of weeks have truly been God’s blessings. We saw parents coming together as a community and serving God and each other. Here is a parent’s sharing about the Potluck night which was held on Nov 20.
Up till the week before the Potluck/ Silent Auction night, I didn’t give it much thought as my mind was occupied with other commitments. I thought my homemade oxtail stew would be my only contribution to the event until a parent called me to ask about the silent auction. When I tried to call a member of our board for more information, I learnt that she was already asleep as she was too tired from coordinating the event among all other responsibilities. I began to ask, ‘What can I do to help and support the school and our board members who have made so much sacrifice for PCA?
God gave me an idea: When I send my annual Christmas newsletter to my friends and relatives this year, I can share with them the needs of the school and give them the link to PCA on-line donation if they feel moved by God. Last Monday when I paid a visit to a friend who is recovering from a car accident, I had a chance to share with her about this idea. Quite unexpectedly, she handed me a cheque to PCA for a generous amount. She knew about PCA’s need for a long time but just did not have a chance to give. Now she was ready in God’s timing.
Then God reminded me of an alumni parent who operates an electronic store. As I called her for donating items for the silent auction she was ready to give and asked me to come back on Thursday to collect the items. Isn’t God amazing? This lowly me has no idea of where I can get resources from but as I submit to God’s guiding, he opens up the door for me.
Praise the Lord. As we all know by now, the potluck was a tremendous success. Over 150 people attended, with over $50,000 raised and 2 pre-registrations received. God is truly amazing.
Then the gift cards order came in this week. We received close to $30,000 worth of orders, and raised about $1,400 for the school. The PAC is now organizing the Teachers, Staff and Board Members Appreciation/ Christmas Dinner, and so far we are seeing generous giving and gifts coming in. The deadline of collecting the $15 or more per student and gifts is Monday, Nov 29. If you miss the deadline but still want to offer, please contact us at pac (at) pca.ca.
The PAC would really like to thank all the parents who have contributed to make these events and programs a success. Lastly and the most important thing is, if you still haven’t sent in your intent to register form, please do so as soon as you can. 50% of the current students have done so already, so let’s all do our part to build this PCA community. The $50 you spend on this purpose will be the most significant help to the school to present the enrolment number to the financing institution to further God’s Kingdom. May God’s will be done.
