School Information Update

June 24, 2010

Dear PCA Parents,

As we draw the 2009/2010 school year to a close there are a number of news items I would like to pass on to you. This has been, in spite of some times of uncertainty, a very successful year of operation. Much has been accomplished, both from the perspective of the individual accomplishments of the students, and from the point of view of the broader goals of the school.

New Site for JK to Grade 3
We were excited to have over 100 parents and students visit the new elementary school site at Willowdale Pentecostal Church during our Open House on June 22, 2010. We have reconfigured the layout of the site so that the JK, SK and Grade 1 classes are now placed in rooms that are equipped with windows. Look for details in our August information package which will be sent to you by mail.

Staff Retention
One of the primary indicators of our stability as a school has been the very high rate of teacher return. We do, however, have some changes to announce. We regret to inform you that Mrs. Sharon Cracknell, Mrs. Ann-Marie Crouse, Mrs. Diane Lindstrom, and Mr. Stephen Riches will be pursuing other ventures in this coming year. We wish them all the best and thank them for their dedicated contribution to PCA.

Mrs. Vanessa Peart and Mrs. Taline Kalemkerian will be going on maternity leave for the entire school year. In the meantime, we welcome back Mrs. Sarah Newcomb who has been away for most of this year on maternity leave and will assume new responsibilities in the junior high grades.

Most of you are already aware that Mrs. Fran Gibson will be retiring this year. She has served PCA with distinction for 27 years and has won the hearts of parents, colleagues and students. We pray the Lord’s direction and blessing on the next phase of her life.

We are grateful for the administrative leadership that Mrs. Cracknell has given over the past two years. She also has served PCA for many years with a high level of skill and dedication. Her administrative expertise means that the High School program is already set up and ready to go for September. We wish her well in her future endeavours. A succession plan for the principalship of the High School is now underway.

One new teacher, Mr. Matthew Westacott, will be joining the high school staff with primary duties in Senior English.

We are pleased to announce that we have renewed contracts with all other faculty members for the new school year. We are thankful to the Lord for their ongoing commitment to the ministry of PCA.

Summer Hours
Both the elementary and high school offices will be open during the summer to respond to all inquiries and to receive new applications for the next school year. The operating hours are 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Relocation Grades 4 to 6 to Wilfred Annex
Over the summer the Wilfred Annex will be cleaned up and fitted with desks and chairs for elementary grades. Minor improvements will be made to welcome the grades 4 to 6 students in the new school year commencing September 7, 2010.

Relocation of Elementary School Offices and Business Office
The Elementary School office will be in transition from around mid-July to early August. During that time the High School office will function as the central office for both divisions. In August 2010, the elementary school office and the business office will be relocated out of the existing elementary school and church buildings. Details will be announced later, and directions to the new locations will be placed outside the existing elementary school office. There will be an elementary school office at the Willowdale Pentecostal Church starting in September 2010.

Concert of Prayer
Be sure to join us this Sunday afternoon, June 27 at 3:30 at The Peoples Church for an hour long prayer concert. Some local church leaders will be present to lead in prayer as the Jubilance Singers and Orchestra provide a worship focus with their excellent ministry in music. This will be a significant event for the PCA family as we acknowledge or need for the Lord’s help in steering today’s children and young people in a biblical direction.

Graduation
I encourage the whole PCA community to attend the high school graduation ceremonies of the 2010 graduating class. They take place on Wednesday, June 30 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium of The Peoples Church. It is a time of immense pride and blessing which has relevance to the whole school.

I wish you all a safe and restful summer.

Yours truly,
Reg Andrews,
Director of Operations and Ministry.
